Help The GreenTech Shop get a new look

I am looking for someone to redesign The GreenTech Shop. I mentioned in my last post that I have started doing web design work again, but I think for this particular redesign I’m going to look for someone who has more experience and brings an outside perspective to the table. Preferable the person is someone who has experience with e-commerce and “green” sites. Please contact me at jesse@thegreentechshop.com if you (or if you know someone) are interested in adding a eco-friendly, consumer electronics website to your portfolio or if you have any questions. For this project all I’m looking for is the design, I can do the actual coding myself. Thanks.

Returning to my Web Design Roots

I’ve decided to go back to how I first got started doing technology work and do a little freelance web design again. It’s been awhile since the last project I’ve worked on and honestly, I kind of miss it. The last site that I designed myself was my green consumer electronics e-commerce site, The GreenTech Shop. For my latest project I’ve decided to help Liz create a website for Spanish translation company that she has been thinking about starting.

Right now I’m reading Head First Web Design, to help me refine my web design process. When doing any site designs usually I just jumped into creating a mock up in Photoshop, showed it to my client, and then started coding. Head First Web Design goes a little deeper into building storyboards and really getting to known what your client wants. It also spends a lot of time discussing how to design a proper site for your clients target market.

I’m pretty much done with the storyboard and I’m going to create the mock up in Photoshop. Even though Head First never discusses using Photoshop, I think it’s a good idea to create an image using software so because its a lot easier to get the layout and colors right before you start coding.

Hopefully I’ll be done with the site in the next month or so and I’ll link to the site when I’m done.
